You will go at
Anytime

I contribute weekly on the radio program, “For the Love of Produce” in Sonoma County with hosts, Mark Mulcahy and MaryAnn Carr. The live show is a progressive look at produce and how it affects our daily lives. We discuss the consuming and producing of food, specifically vegetables and interview guests over the phone and in the studio. Our show can be heard on Tuesday’s from 4pm-5pm Pacific Standard Time on KSVY 91.3 and checked out online at www.ksvy.org/home.htm

Previous interviews include Michael O’Gorman, Founder of Farms Not Arms (www.farmsnotarms.org) and Sufyan Bunch, Program Director of Farmer Veteran Coalition (www.farmvetco.org) among other wonderfully educated and passionate activists.

Today we pre-recorded our show and interviewed Barbara Storper, MS, RD about her wonderful Food Play Productions company. She founded Food Play in the 80’s to teach kids about nutrition in a fun and theatrical way.

Her website, www.foodplay.com reads:

” Our comprehensive nutrition education programs combine dynamic live theater performances with fun-filled research-based educational materials to trigger school-wide excitement around creating healthy schools and healthy communities.

FoodPlay Productions’ programs have been created under sponsorship by the US Department of Agriculture, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation, and departments of public health and education throughout the country.”

We also spoke with Shelley Rogers who is Producer and Director of a new upcoming documentary called What’s Organic About Organic (www.whatsorganicmovie.org)

Her website reads:

WHAT’S ORGANIC ABOUT “ORGANIC?” delves into the debates that arise when a grassroots agricultural movement evolves into a booming international market. While many folks can easily endorse “organic,” the characters in the film take the discussion beyond just shopping for another eco-label. Each character is intimately involved in the organic world and by catching a glimpse into their lives, the audience will see how, when done right, organic agriculture is the potential answer to many of our environmental and health problems.

By taking a brief look backwards into the hidden costs of conventional agriculture, the film propels us to look forward—toward a new look at our health, our economic models, & our society and their connections to our environment. As the film moves from farm fields to government meetings to industry trade shows, it encourages us to ask, “What should our future food system look like?”

International Dance Exchange Alliance (IDEA)

(IDEA) is for anyone who wants to make themselves accessible by working
outside of the typical structure created for dance touring and producing. Artists of all disciplines are welcome (painters, musicians, etc.) as well as patrons and kind folks who are interested in offering artists a space to be heard.

Here is a great way to not just sit and wait on a long list for a small turn at presenting your art… cause we don’t care how bad your art is! We just want your commitment to working together. A whole community of artists and supporters fighting for our rights will help individuals and independent companies continue to succeed. Art is the foundation of all cultures. So, before all the artists of our day quit to get a “real” job, let’s work together on a larger level, one where we can assist artists in affording to tour and presenting art. Imagine presenting your art monthly instead of bi-annually!

How it works: You send in your contact info. We post it. Everyone is offered free information and contacts. People communicate. Art happens. More connections are made. Connections with artists and our 5 month tour through out the U.S. made me believe that in time we can build this together.

Eventually, I would like to expand on this idea and organize a performance tour of artists circulating different cities. Hopefully this country will get back some art funding soon, but without it now we can still be productive. We just have to learn how to work together. Instead of competing for contacts and funding, we can relax and do what we love more and less of the b.s.!

Email lily@xdrop.org your full name, city you live or work in, description of yourself and best ways to contact you.

Thanks again to those of you who have kindly donated and to everyone for your support of the arts!

We are melting

She said “I can’t see it”

The fan is sifting our yellow glow
Another dressing room
Another mirror
To look into
Another city
With similar blues
Dancing our dying days
To the beat of another drum
After this is over
I got no where to go
The makeup is running
Picasso down our cheeks
It all started so safe
On an empty stage
There was no one who would judge
An unidentified rhythm
Penetrating
Delivering us from hate
That’s when they tore down the walls
And opened up the gates
We grew balls
Because we couldn’t escape

We are melting

She said “I just keep holding on”

What plays on the heartstrings of people?
Under the terror of twisted men
Trampled to a crawl
Agent Orange for all!
Disguised as a new brand with
More unnecessary use
We are suffocating
The marching band lost their tune
When the television hit mute
I’m sorry we’ve got a
Different kind of song to play
It’s called the breathing room

We seemed to have grown older
Under the glow of the tree lights
This is just what we do
On a Friday afternoon
The warmest shine is still
The one that radiates out of you

We are melting

She said “I hope to talk to you soon”

No sound
Could crack this barrier
I never let him into my world
Somewhere between the divided
Segments of the corporate ladder
I gave up on him

An artist weeps
In her tea
As the dark in the black
Is coming after me
This is supposed to be an adventure
We are a common disaster
Misunderstandings
My pie is burning
Helen Keller’s ghost
Passes through my kitchen

I don’t know where she went
She knew too little
I gave up on her
Somewhere between the Christmas calls
And the garage sale
An artist decides where
She will die
The forest on the screen is likely to be
Fresher than the meal I’m cooking

This was all a dream
Inside the dream was Buddha
He was playing cards
God dealt him a king
Jesus said nothing
There was a kid with a gun
The Goddesses were laughing
As the kid shot water down their lungs
It was supposed to be fun
There is a catalyst
To choke
To hug
Helen warned us
But never broke it down low

Between getting back together and
The long distance
Was a fantasy I lived in
The trip was timing
My hands were asking me
What I was doing
Trouble was near
And I leapt into the fire
I just fucking leapt into the fire
I just…

Believed in something
I couldn’t share with you

The catalyst is coming
We will soon retreat
It is time to catch my breath
My breath is catching up to time
Remember Zion?
The place you chose to die?
The three women, the rope,
The squirrel were all holding my eye
Coming down the mountain
Never felt so high

A poet, a writer, a teacher
In a suitcase of a thousand preachers
Taking turns excusing the secret
Patiently watching
The unconscious crossing of herds
Only then did I begin to morph into
The meaning of my words

So good was God for the ride
For the funny gorilla nights
This is how the artist came to understand
That one cannot paint goodbye

The impact carried the weight of water
Held her closely
Held her up for starters

Looking up at those two
They always came through
San Francisco is a city in a cloud
Dense fog
Dripping light
Storms thundering my brain
No it’s not an earthquake
Just the next L train

Walking with you
I took your glasses so you couldn’t see
Made you follow me
Past dirty pot holes
Rain pouring out
All the leaves just applauded
When I finally let my guard down

I think some things never get rightfully said
How much love has to slide through hate
Just to feel alive?

The impact made the pressure rise
So she rose above the grain
Between a hard rock and a long fight
She kept rising just the same
All the dense air lifted her
To where the temperature was just right
Where the wind blows with each longing sigh
For all the love and
Every reason why

I’ll be leaving soon
I’ll be on the road
Who knows for how long or
How far I will go
If all the green grass is still wet
And the cyclones are starting to rise
The impact will flawlessly break
The weather against the sky

San Francisco is a city in a cloud
Grey unfolding
Dim streetlights
We were built here
This was our ground
Everything made our art
Art made everything in this town

Those two are still shining up above
Hang your head outside your window
I’ll be there next to the other one

Some of the greatest revolutionaries
Were ordinary people
Like you and me

Some of the movements
Too great to have been lost in history
Are expanding in their belief
That we have no borders
No rules
No personal gain
No criminals
No deception
No one to hurt
No one to blame

By what you are defined
Is what you’ve got to ask
When no one is watching
Do you still like to dance?

This innocent child of life
Is dancing the universal language
In this universal fight
Won’t you join in
Cause we’re here to play this again
We’re hearing you
Your religion is a friend
Hallelujah
(Breathe)
Amen

Some of the greatest revolutionaries
Were ordinary people
Like you and me
