Uneducated Nation

Took a turn one day for the worst part of you
That I could find
Told you this was where it was at
You’re more you the more you drink
I’m a little less who you new before
Yesterday’s sunset is still setting in my mind
If we’re not where we want to be
We’re nobody not to try
I’m pedaling
Back up the hill that brought me west
Heading north on a curved course
Disintegrating the conditional point of view
This was the matter at hand
About the conflicting truth
Some things I will never understand
Like how you said I was worth more
Than you gave me credit for
All the men are crying at this table
I’m shifted with smoke
You’re bringing up the same old story
That wore you out
That gave you remorse
People ignored you
And you always lie
You think you’re better than me
Among all things you’ve kept the hate alive
So you took the mountains
Ate the meat
Built a fort
I never said you were weak
Half the moon
And half a man
Between the oceans
On some sovereign land
Where boundaries are justified
By what you give and
Where you decide
Here sits a man on his rock
With a mouth full of pie
He’s choking on his words
Or was it the persistent flies
We’re all capable corpses
Drawn to drama
Every man and their baby’s crazy mama
Obedience is no education
For an uneducated nation
What is wrong with the world today?
Everyone speculates from their comfortable seats
From their comforting bodily debris
You can buy your way up the presidents line
Like our forefathers have and do
If you had the power what would you pursue?
I had a dream
And you were in it
Men were smoking the peace pipe
As it passed across the country
To the unknown towns of Mexico
Into the old wood forests of Canada
Backyards were full of families
And people with no agendas
I looked up and the birds were circling
The pure air of lawlessness
For the first time in my life
I took a clean, deep, honest breath
Thought for a moment I could have felt the heavens
Here on earth
In this mortal flesh
