The Canyon
Space fills my landscape
To watch you leave me
With the stars
As you get smaller
In the distance
In the dark
Tunneled in the spin
They’re pulling out the hair of girls
Who would never win
This is the trouble I’m in
I gave her the last bottle of water
She poured it on her head
She had a helicopter
I had to survive the end
The water fell over the edge of
The rest of my life
She just happened to come
Along for the ride
Walking towards the beat of the sun
We were poisoned
We were warriors
We were nameless children in the sand
She ate all the oranges
The canyon fell to her knees
No flowers are here
She said and she winked
Dust to dust
She saunters by
Like a dying animal
Under a darkening night
It seems that the road
Was driven long before
You entered in a hurry
Into a world that isn’t yours
The earth smells
Better somehow today
Think I’ll just sit right here
With a cup of ice
And a glass of tears
You tell me you’re happy
And I let it roll down
Into a bottle and drank back to town
With the strangers you call friends
For they help you complete one thought in
The sequence of getting lost
As you stutter to a calm
To a disoriented halt and wait out the rain
For some sunny day
Where you can park your car outside
And look at all the people you pushed aside
To get to the top
You could have climbed the canyon
You could have just walked
Did you come back here just to ask for the time?
Or to see if we are synchronized
Cause I came to see if you are
Still watering down your life
